The Casa del Marquesado de Arucas

The house is located on nº 33 of calle Doctor Chil, and was commissioned by D. Baltasar Llarena  to Manuel Ponce de León in 1859, originally occupying the first centre line. The rooms are on three floors and were situated around the courtyard of the second centre line, adopting a palatial morphology, with the stairway on an axis with the courtyard in the eastern boundary line. Later on, the orchards to the back were partly built on with service buildings, and courtyard overlooking calle Santa Bárbara, without any formal composition in terms of style next to the main building. The Neoclassic elevation has an important presence of stonework and ornamental pieces, and has romantic touches. The middle section of the façade overhangs the walls, with a triple curved padding gap, over which the four giant ionic columns rise up flush to the flat wall with a forged iron balcony. The façade is bordered by pillasters with flute capitals. The whole frontis is framed with an entablature and strong cornice with pitchers and family coat of arms.
