Risco del Drago Archaeological Site

The settlement at Risco del Drago is located on the right hand side of the ravine at Lomo Blanco, and is made up of natural and man-made caves, many of them reused in historical times. This settlement is presently in complete disrepair, as some of the caves have actually caved in while others have been built over. Access can be gained along the ravine of Guiniguada, by following the path along the ravine bed. Along this route there is evidence of the first examples of Hispanic colonization, due to the closeness of a new settlement and its aptitude as a route into the middle of the island. The channel that runs along the ravine was used by the new town there for the establishment of sugar mills right after the Conquest. These can be channeled to provide watering systems for the banana plantations all around.
