The Cuyás Theatre

The Cuyás Theatre dates back to 1999, and is dedicated exclusively to the performing arts. It is, nevertheless, one of the most veteran of its kind in the capital of Gran Canaria, and actually goes back over more than a hundred years to the end of the 19th century with the construction by businessman Salvador Cuyás, from the former Cuyás Circus, signalling the emergence of this building, which prior to becoming a permanent theatre, was used for a variety of stage, circus and theatrical shows. 

Its history, together with its configuration as one of the most important examples of the rationalist school of architecture on the island and its location right in the middle of the historical district of Triana, strengthened its pivotal role as a cultural site in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, heightening its position as a top class cultural venue and its fine heritage as a historical building.
