The renowned suspense novelist Mariano Gambín (Melilla, 1963) describes in his latest book of the Ira Dei trilogy, titled The Lercaro House , the wandering of one of his protagonists through the streets of Santa Cruz in this way:

«Marta, like so many others from La Laguna, to avoid the frustration of not finding parking, decided to take the tram, which, despite its numerous twists and stops, was considered a better option than facing the abusive prices of the city centre car parks.

She got off near the Guimerá Theatre, a nineteenth-century block that could be nothing other than a theatre, headed for the pedestrian area and in four minutes passed in front of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, sadly squeezed into a narrow street that mercilessly diminished the neoclassical glamour of its façade. She turned left and her stomach had to stoically endure the recognisable smell of omelette, in all its varieties, as she passed in front of La Garriga — the sandwiches served there had a good reputation — and finally arrived at the restaurant.»
