The British writer Graham Greene (Berkhamsted, United Kingdom 1904–Vevey, Switzerland, 1991), in 1935, when he was barely 30 years old and with his head full of romantic ideas about the African continent, travelled to Liberia with the aim of writing a report on the situation of that country. On his journey, his ship stopped in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. An interesting anecdote he recounts in his book Journey Without Maps. An Adventure to the Heart of Liberia (published in 1936), about that stay in Santa Cruz, tells us that in a cinema in the capital, he does not specify which one, they were showing a film based on one of his works.

«In the cinema in Tenerife they were showing a film that was an adaptation of one of my novels. It had been an instructive and rather painful experience to watch it. The direction was incompetent, the photography mediocre, the plot sentimental.»
