Essayist and poet, Antonio de la Nuez Caballero's (1915-2004) interest in historical research led him to specialise in heraldry. Some of his works are: La Isla, Sueño en los espejos, Las gaviotas o una nueva ecuación de Atlantis, as well as a Brief History of Canarian Literature.
“There is no land or history without myths. Why do we not know ours? The stones and mountains of the island, the sea and the ravines, the tartago, the berode and the guirre of our land have as much power to deserve myths as any other. We just have not known them. Our witches and water-finders are little compared to the immense mass of gods I sense were worshipped on the altar of Bentaiga.”
