The Library of El Museo Canario is structured into four sections: Canary Library, General Library, Canary Reference Library and Maffiotte Library.

The Canary Library is the most complete collection on Canary topics, authors and printed works, thus fulfilling the mission assumed by the institution since its foundation. Chronologically, this section, comprising about 15,000 volumes, consists of titles published between the 16th century and the present.

The General Library – made up of more than 40,000 volumes – consists of publications in various languages and subjects dated between the 15th and 21st centuries, mainly acquired through donation and exchange, incorporating volumes from the former Municipal Library of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and those that were part of the bibliographic collection of the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Gran Canaria.

Apart from these two central collections, El Museo Canario preserves publications of Canary references which, although not strictly local in nature, contain information of interest about our islands or the collaboration of some Canary author.

Finally, the Museum also has the Maffiotte Library, a collection of mostly Canarian or Canary-related printed works, gathered in Madrid by the bibliographer Luis Maffiotte La Roche.
