In the 1999 Statutes the University Library is defined as a functional unit with centralised services (Bibliographic Information, Technical Processing, Interlibrary Loan and Technical Coordination), a General Library responsible for the ancient collections, theses and final degree projects, and the University Archive, and finally, a series of Thematic Libraries.

It is worth highlighting the availability of the loan service to those who are not part of the university community. This process of opening up to the community allows anyone to access the extensive bibliographic collection of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
