Abaniko Building

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1963 · Authors: Pedro Massieu Verdugo

In this work the architect rationally planned the distribution of space on an irregular plot using the shape of the triangle, thereby managing to provide regularity to the layout of the dwellings. Furthermore, the project is a mandatory reference due to the use of materials. The exposed concrete on cornices and projections contrasts with the use of stone - the callao - as a façade cladding, incorporated as lost formwork, developing a fusion of processes derived from constructive rationalism, brutalism and early 20th-century naturalism, adapted to the Canarian geography, where the callao forms part of the coastal landscape.
