The Ovalum Building

Architect Ramón Quintana Cárdenes modernised the area around the Plaza de la Feria in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, when designing the Ovalum Building. This work was carried out by the Arquintegral y Diseño studio in Madrid, by Manuel de Lorenzo, and is characterized by its oval shape, fitting snugly in the corner between  the streets of Venegas and León y Castillo. The building is defined by the design of its façade, a ventilated model a using grey metallic frame and glass, quite reminiscent of the bow of a boat. Of special interest is its capacity to transform the physionomy of the area, displaying an image of modernness linked to grand metropolises elsewhere on the planet, with a classically styled corner, previously used on many occasions in landmarks such as the Flatiron Building (1902) by Daniel Burnham in Nueva York and the Capitol Building (1930-1931) by Luis Martínez-Feduchi Ruiz and Vicente Eced Eced in Madrid, and stands out as a contrasting element in a consolidated environment in this part of the city.
