The Courtyard of the Seven Wine Presses

The Courtyard of the Seven Wine Presses, declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), with the category of Historic Site, is one of the most outstanding examples of the traditional wine industry on the island of Gran Canaria. It is a unit that includes a group of buildings related to wine production, arranged around a central courtyard where the collection of wine presses is concentrated.

The original work began in the 18th century within the property of the Hacienda de la Data. Throughout that century and during the 19th century and first half of the 20th century, the complex underwent a series of renovations to adapt it to the uses of each period, always linked to the primary sector. In this same courtyard are located several seats of the old wine presses that preserve as material testimony the stone floors on which they were situated.

Within this complex is a small wine press known as the Tithe Wine Press, which was used to separate the part of the harvest that, as a tithe, was destined for the care of the diocesan Church.
