The Francis Naranjo Foundation is a non-profit entity founded in 2019 with an initial exhibition experience at the Ermita Santa Catalina de Santa María de Guía (Gran Canaria, Spain).

On 4 June 2022, and through an agreement with the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the headquarters and exhibition space of the Francis Naranjo Foundation was inaugurated at Avenida Primero de Mayo, 63.

Based on the experience and professional career of the Gran Canarian artist Francis Naranjo (1961), the Francis Naranjo Foundation defines itself as a Contemporary Art Project focused on exhibition, dissemination, artistic mediation, research, production of contemporary art and the constitution of a collection of contemporary, popular and indigenous art.

Since 2003 Francis Naranjo has been constantly exhibiting and curating art projects in Latin America. Since then he has generated a whole network of collaborations among artists, curators and theorists, museums, biennials, residencies, festivals and galleries. 

It is from the formation and experience acquired in this network that the Foundation was born as a project working to generate bridges and networks between the Canary Islands and Latin America, understanding them as close territories due to their historical processes and cultural idiosyncrasy, as well as peripheral spaces in which to create artistic proposals from experimental and alternative positions to the absorbing centre of the globalised world we inhabit.

One of the main objectives of the Foundation is to work for the internationalisation of the Canarian cultural fabric, understanding it as a complex whole built by diverse agents. It is conceived as a space for creation and a platform for artists, a place to bring contemporary artistic languages closer to the citizenry.
