Previous iron architectural references can be found in the construction of the Pescaderías de Las Palmas fishmongers building, which is no longer here, but back then was well ahead of its time, as architect José Antonio López Echegarreta drew up plans in 1874. He invisaged a building next to the Vegueta Market as a storage larder for fresh fish using zinc sheets adjoining a cast iron pillar structure.
