Tenoya Bridge

This bridge is located on the North main road. It is an important civil infrastructure that crosses the Tenoya ravine, a geographical feature dividing the municipalities of Las Palmas and Arucas.

The road, of great importance in the island's road network connecting the capital with the main productive areas in the north of the island, began construction in 1852. Twenty years later, in 1872, work on the Tenoya Bridge was undertaken under the technical direction of engineer Juan de León y Castillo.

The bridge was built in ashlar and mortar, spanning the ravine with two wide arches separated by a robust central pillar with a square base from which the two semi-elliptical arches develop. At the top it has a slab for the road surface and along the edge parapets runs a finely crafted ashlar coping.

The work was completed in 1878 and represented a huge advance for communications between the capital and the north of the island. Its current state of conservation is quite good, remaining as one of the best examples of public works carried out in Gran Canaria in the last quarter of the 19th century.
