[... ] Laureano Arroyo, although when arriving at Las Palmas from Barcelona (1888) knew about the work of Domenech i Montaner (Café Restaurante in 1887-1888 at the Universal Exhibition or the Editorial Montaner i Simón in 1880), he did have design practice on an ample continual eclectic, classist and medievalist base which he made in Caldetas (Barcelona) between 1875 and 1885.
In this way, even though in the so called Casa de las Almenas (from 1899-1903) there are modernist elements in its interior (windows, recesses, furniture), on the façade the architect didn't show such an addiction to modernism. On the contrary, the corbels lining the frieze and the crenels that top the pilasters to border the compositive style with eclectic syncretism (one Barcelona's architectural trends of the period) are reconciled with the iron on the curved balconies, the window ledges or the iron and glass viewpoints.
