Caseta de Galán

The Caseta de Galán was a kind of spa with a restaurant located on the beach itself, at the height of the current Sagasta street. It was inaugurated by Antonio Galán Lisardo in 1929 and burned down in 1935. With its destruction disappeared a popular restaurant that was built on the sand itself, on concrete and iron pillars on Las Canteras beach, between Gran Canaria and La Palma streets, opposite the no less popular restaurants “Bar Farol” and “Bar Toledo” on Sagasta street.

The fire at the Caseta de Galán occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 27 November 1935. The owner, Mr Antonio Galán, had leased it to Mr Manuel Teixeira. Apparently, the fire started in the kitchen, attributed to the fact that due to the heavy rains recorded in the afternoon the electrical installation cables became damp, causing a short circuit. The premises and furniture of what was a popular spa of Las Delicias, better known as the “Caseta de Galán”, were completely burnt down. It was a restaurant much frequented by merchants, writers and the social elite of that time.
