Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Memory spaces · Year: 1960 · Authors: Antonio Cardona Aragón
This cinema, located in the populous Escaleritas neighbourhood, was designed in 1953 by the architect Antonio Cardona. The building, of clear regionalist style, began operating as a cinema on 26 November 1960 under the direction of Domingo Hernández Bethencourt. It was renovated in 1980, reaching a capacity of 322 people. It closed its doors in March 1986.
For almost thirty years, the Escaleritas Cinema functioned as a generator of culture and leisure for this entire area of the capital. Today, its premises form part of the headquarters of the Pastoral Centre of the Parish of Santa Isabel de Hungría.
