For our sculptor, as occurs in El Atlante, which seems to take a step forward to take on the elements, the grotesque body is in flowing motion. It is never ready nor properly finished, it is as if it were in a continual state of procreation, of recreation on the part of the artist, with he himself engendering another body. As an imposing monument on a headland along the coastline of El Rincón, facing out to sea and with its back to the mountains, El Atlante sucks in the whole world, absorbs the environment, while the environment absorbs it at the same time. This is the essential role attributed to the grotesque body at the points where it spills over. With El Atlante, all those driving along the motorway who catch a glimpse of it, have the sensation that this enormous figure, standing over 8 metres tall, is exceeding its own limits and seems to be metamorphizing itself into another second Atlante, now with its chubby belly and phallus.
