Sculptures in the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium

This fine architectural structure is complemented by an original series of scultpures by Juan Bordes. He is very sensitive to the function of sculpture as an element of composition in architecture. The proposal of the Gran Canarian sculptor was to transform the building into a marine rock inhabited by sea creatures, placed at significant points all around. As for its composition, the rock's sentinal or lookout welcomes visitors in the building's foyer, with a huge sculptural piece that also acts as a dispenser. Elsewhere in the construction, a climbing octopus reaches out to an inaccessible gargoyle, blending in with the texture of the façades, while the traditional weather-vane looks like a luminous silver scorpion fish looking out to sea, over a large crystal arch, like a reborn classist jellyfish crowned by the stretched out tentacles of a voracious cephalopod.
