Monument to Alfredo Kraus

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Category: Art · Subcategory: Sculpture · Year: 2001 · Authors: Víctor Ochoa

This monument is the work of sculptor and architect Víctor Ochoa, who was chosen specifically for the job by the Town Hall. It was inaugurated on 1st February 2001. It consists of a large single sculpture, set in bronze, measuring eight and a half metres in height. It is located on a two metre high base in the shape of an isosceles triangle, like an arrow pointing out to sea. The sculptor chose a realistic style for this work, although it featured many of the singer's symbolic traits, who dominates the sea horizon with dramatic power. The expressiveness of his face and his foreshortened torso, as well as the gesture of his hands, reflect a lifelike image of the great tenor, and from it, a whole host of interpretations can be taken from this fine piece of rythmical work.
