Novel written by Benito Pérez Galdós in 1884, in which he employs popular literature tropes with a caricatured intent, parodying them in the Cervantine manner. It tells a love story: Amparo, the main character, a poor relative and at the same time servant of the Bringas family, must overcome the obstacles of a bad love from the past (her relationship with the priest Pedro Polo) to successfully carry out her relationship with Agustín Caballero, a wealthy indiano who falls in love with her.
