Besides his dedication to literature, Víctor Doreste Grande (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1902-1966) studied music and was also fond of painting, arts which he practised extensively. During his childhood years he lived in Salamanca. Years later he travelled to Germany, where he studied piano in the city of Leipzig. Besides being a pianist, he stood out as a composer and guitarist. He regularly collaborated with the archipelago's press, publishing humorous articles. Two of his comedies were premiered: Una limonada para el señor and Ven acá, vino tintillo , a one-act farce that was performed more than a hundred times during the author's lifetime. For the theatre he also wrote the music for La Zahorina , a Canarian zarzuela. He published Faycán (1945), an allegorical novel in which the author seeks to recover the pre-Hispanic past, one of the most reprinted and read Canarian books, Once sonetos (1949) and Narraciones canarias (1965).
