La Carnicería Battery

This battery, together with that of Isabel II, formed the defensive system devised in the mid-18th century to protect the coastal line of the city between the mouths of the Aceite ( Barranquillo ) and Santos ravines.

The La Carnicería battery, so named because it was on the beach of the same name, consisted of an earthwork enclosed by a parapet and had a ramp for access, as it was at some height above sea level. Despite its small size, it had three artillery pieces. Its wall had been built in an inadequate manner, roughly hewn, often being ruined by the pounding of the sea.

It was rebuilt in the mid-19th century and definitively removed in the early decades of the 20th century to make way for the urban reform of the area.
