This statue dedicated to Saint John Bosco was created by the artist from Huelva, Martn Lagares, and placed in the Plaza del Arquitecto Marrero Regalado in 2016, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the presence of the Salesian community in the city's Hogar escuela.

John Bosco, in Italian Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco and better known as Don Bosco (I Becchi, 16 August 1815 Turin, 31 January 1888), was an Italian priest, educator and writer who founded the Salesian Congregation. He developed a modern pedagogical system known as the "Preventive System" for the education of children and young people and promoted the construction of educational works serving the most needy youth, especially in Europe and Latin America. His prestige as a priest and as an educator of needy or at-risk youth earned him the respect of civil and religious authorities of his time, both in his country and abroad. He was canonised in 1934.

The statue we see represents the saint with the Virgin of Candelaria in his arms.
