María Auxiliadora Boarding School

This boarding school, built under the auspices of the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Savings Bank and Pawnshop of Santa Cruz de Tenerife), is one of the most interesting works of the architect Domingo Pisaca. The plans were presented in July 1939, with the building completed in 1943. 

Located on La Rosa street, opposite another school building constructed at the end of the 19th century, Pisaca designed a five-storey building with a flat façade rich in decorative suggestions. At both ends of the façade line stand symmetrical towers; the northern one houses a chapel; the southern one, the entrance to the building. 

As in other school centres designed under rationalist guidelines, the main façade conceals the services and galleries. The classrooms and dormitories were projected towards a large inner courtyard.
