Sculptural group "The Seasons"
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Art · Subcategory: Sculpture · Year: 1962
In the magnificent Manuel Bonnín Guerín promenade of García Sanabria Park, surrounded by oleanders and bougainvilleas, is this sculptural group called The Seasons, by an unknown author and donated to the city from Venice in 1962 by the "Commendatore Gran Croce D'Italia" Francesco Genova.
The work consists of four female figures of idealised beauty, made of artificial limestone and erected on a pedestal. They represent allegories of the four seasons, each carrying attributes typical of each season: flowers correspond to spring; ears of corn to summer; bunches of grapes to autumn; and the bundle of firewood to winter.
