Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Cultural spaces · Subcategory: Institutions · Year: 2025

The Manuel Darias Comic House is an exhibition space managed by the Fundación Cine+Cómics (Film+Comics Foundation) dedicated both to the figure it is named after and to Spanish comics.

Manuel Darias is a critic and disseminator from Tenerife who has been writing about comics for over 50 years. He is a key figure in the dissemination of comics in Spain, recognised in 2024 with the Gold Medal for Cultural Merit of the city.

This interesting cultural space bearing his name is located in the La Noria street area and was inaugurated on 23 October 2025, coinciding with the start of activities of the XXII International Comic and Illustration Fair of Tenerife . The event was attended by Manuel Darias himself, institutional representatives from the City Council and the Cabildo, officials from the Fundación Cine+Cómics and numerous authors invited to the Fair.

The permanent exhibition core of the House is the Manuel Darias: Half a Century of Comics display, which brings together a selection of more than 2,500 articles published by the critic, significant comics from his trajectory as a reader, illustrations dedicated by Spanish authors and various originals from his personal archive. The exhibition documents both the evolution of Spanish comics and the role of specialised criticism in their cultural consolidation.

The Manuel Darias Comic House is one of the few stable spaces in Spain specifically dedicated to the dissemination of comics from a historical, critical and heritage perspective. From here, a programme of temporary exhibitions focused on contemporary Spanish comics is intended to be developed.
