Los Auchones Necropolis (Taganana)

In 1986, aboriginal human remains of about ten individuals were discovered in the hamlet of El Chorro, very close to the village of Taganana. They were found under a huge stone block, in an area previously known by the toponym Los Auchones, an aboriginal term found throughout the island's geography and interpreted as a place or cave adapted for use; although some scholars identify it as a shelter or corral.

The archaeological site of Los Auchones is located inside a narrow ravine, where at about 20 metres deep the remains of 10 individuals of both sexes and various ages were found. It is possibly a family burial ensemble. The aboriginal inhabitants of this area, lacking a physiographic environment rich in natural caves, used the spaces covered by large stone blocks scattered across the landscape after their detachment from the main slope, both for dwelling and burial purposes.
