Las Indias Park

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Leisure · Subcategory: Green spaces · Year: 1992 · Authors: Federico García Barba, José Lorenzo García García

The lack of green space in this upper sector of the city was resolved in 1992 with the construction of this park designed by architects Federico García Barba and José Lorenzo García García.

The necessary transition of this space between neighbourhoods with very different formal characteristics (La Salud and El Perú) gave rise to a design in two clearly differentiated areas: one consisting of a succession of square small squares arranged as successive terraces, and another inspired by the tradition of English "picturesque" parks.

The slope of the land allows good views of the distant sea that can be seen over the park's plant species. Palms, eucalyptus, Gabon tulip trees, jacarandas, among other species, are arranged on the terraces ensuring the succession of blooms with their different colours.

A series of architectural elements such as pergolas and kiosks ornament this park inaugurated in 1992.
