Street Sculpture Route I: 29. Macla

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Route · Subcategory: Street sculpture I · Year: 1973 · Authors: Eduardo Gregorio

This was the work presented in 1973 by the Gran Canarian sculptor Eduardo Gregorio (1903-1974) for the I International Exhibition of Street Sculpture in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The sculpture presents absolute geometric rigour. It occupies space through a giant marquetry forged in concrete, radically departing from the author's usual expressionist diction strengthened during his long stay in Venezuela.

The piece has wandered through several places in the capital. Its original location was on Reyes Católicos avenue; then it was moved inside the Parque Cultural Viera Clavijo; later it was installed on Ángel Guimerá street, to finally move to its current location in Las Indias park, where it has remained since 1994.
