Nuestra Señora de África Market Shopping Centre

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Industrial architecture · Year: 1994 · Authors: José Lorenzo García García

This building was designed in 1990 by architect José Lorenzo García García as a commercial complement to the Recova.

The complex is organised around a triangular floor plan to which figurative operations are added that form its basis. A main axis of circulation is established along its longest side. Triangle and circle are geometries that define the entire complex.

Noteworthy are the magnificent entrances, adapted to a complex urban grid, both due to existing vehicular traffic and the formal characteristics of the surrounding buildings.

Completed in 1994, this shopping centre annexed to the Mercado Nuestra Señora de África complements the neighbouring recova extraordinarily well, as their uses are completely different yet complementary. On the other hand, both venues are totally opposite in atmosphere and form: the recova, open and bustling; the shopping centre, hermetic and calm.
