Military Riding School

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Memory · Subcategory: Sites of memory · Year: S. XIX

On the land once known as Campo de los Belgas, today located just north of the Captaincy, on the other side of the street named in 1873 as República (in honour of the short-lived First Spanish Republic), later 18 de Julio and today Juan Pablo II, there was installed, for a short time, a military riding school where, apparently, colts and horses brought expressly from Argentina were tamed.

We know little about this facility, only that it was an extensive plot surrounded by a wall where, between 1929-30, the building to house the Military Government headquarters was erected and, somewhat later, another annex dedicated to the Recruitment Office.
