This is a sculpture promoted by the Fundación Mapfre Canarias to recognise the effort made by healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its author, the sculptor Daniel Pérez, was born in Teror, Gran Canaria, in 1987.

"A pulso" is an abstract sculpture made of stainless steel, whose forms interpret the process experienced by society since the beginning of the pandemic. A timeline that begins with a harsh twisting of the forms, in March 2020, the date of the initial lockdown. Fear, lack of information and social distancing take their toll on society, but it decides to stay united.

We find ourselves in a longer period of time, an unstable and curvilinear movement with a feeling of impotence before the events, but a halo of hope.

From union comes strength. With a firm and constant impulse, thanks to the effort of healthcare personnel, patients, families and society in general, a powerful movement is born that leads us towards the long-awaited return to normality, almost two years later.

"A pulso", seen from a certain angle, is observed like the heartbeat of a heart on an electrocardiogram.

A work designed with the intention of commemorating and capturing in time the obstacles faced by the citizenry, but above all the way in which they have been overcome. May faith in professionals, effort, patience, solidarity and love for those who have been lost along the way push us to maintain cohesion and social awareness to face any future adversity with fortitude.
