This sculpture was commissioned by the Asociación de Reparaciones Navales, to commemorate and honour the workers and companies dedicated to ship repair, an economic and social sector of great importance in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

A sector whose origins date back to 1492, with the repairs that Christopher Columbus made on the caravel “La Pinta” to continue his voyage towards the discovery of America and which later became known as the “shipwrights”. These masters were very important in the development of the Port of Las Palmas and its strategic position for naval repairs and provisioning.

The sculpture, titled Baos , is made of corten steel and painted red, measuring 600 x 440 x 60 cm, and represents the naval structural elements of the frames and the beam. The composition of the work, with that geometric structure, reminds us how simple and complex at the same time the construction of a ship is, its harmonious internal structure, which remains hidden from the reality of its purpose, and how only those involved in its making delight in this beauty that, in some way, has been revealed to the eyes of the public.
