San Juan Battery
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Military architecture · Year: 1898
It was located on an elevation above the San Juan neighbourhood, at an average height of about 150 metres. Its construction works began in 1898 and the battery was not fully completed until 7 years later. During World War II, the San Juan battery was armed with 4 O. H. S. 210 mm Ordóñez guns, model 1891. It was disarmed at the end of the 1950s, although its premises continued to be used as warehouses for a few more years.
With magnificent views of the city, the San Juan battery is today in a state of abandonment.
