The Military Government Building

This building was the project of engineer José de Lezcano Muxica in 1881 and building work went on until 1893. It occupies a quite privileged setting opposite San Telmo Park, and is made up of a central building with two side pavillions set back from the main road with gardens. The palace is square shaped and has three floors, as well as the recently added one on the skyroof. There is also a central courtyard, access to which is gained from the hallway under the front centre line. with cast iron columns and wooden parametres. The façade is classic-academic in style. The bottom floor has a stonework cover while the upper sections alternate flat parametre with marked recesses which, on the main floor, are topped by curved and straight frontis. The building culminates in a cornice and frontis in whose tympanum is a coat of arms. A highlight is the giant sized pilasters all along the façade.
