At the seashore, where Balcones Street ended, on a rugged pebble beach, there was a small coastal battery that defended this central area of the city's coastline.

This military emplacement, built between 1659 and 1686, was small in size and had a diamond shape, ashlar masonry walls, and an earthen interior. It once had three artillery pieces.
