Francisco González Díaz (1866-1945) is considered a jewel of Spanish literature. Authors such as Unamuno, Benavente and Emilia Pardo Bazán praised his work. At 15 years old he published his first work in Diario de Las Palmas, where he continued collaborating, as well as in other media such as Nuevo Mundo , El Globo and El Heraldo de Madrid . Among his works stand out En la selva oscura and Un canario en Cuba.

He was one of the promoters of tourism and highly recognised for his work in favour of trees, earning the nickname the apostle of the tree .
