Character from the novel by Benito Pérez Galdós Fortunata y Jacinta , published in 1887, within the cycle of the "Contemporary Spanish Novels". According to the majority opinion of literary criticism, it is the author's best novel, and together with La Regenta by Leopoldo Alas Clarín, one of the most popular and representative of Spanish literary realism and of the Spanish novel of the 19th century. Set in Madrid in the second half of that century, it tells the intertwined lives of two women of different social backgrounds united by a tragic fate.

Jacinta, the official wife of the young gentleman Juan de Santa Cruz, is a serious, religious woman with principles, who cannot have children.
