Gerona is the seventh novel of the first series of the Episodios Nacionales by Benito Pérez Galdós. It continues the novelised account of the War of Independence between Spain and France. On this occasion, it narrates the siege of the French troops to the city of Gerona throughout the second half of the year 1809. The protagonism does not fall on Gabriel de Araceli (protagonist of the rest of the novels of the first series), but on Andrés Marijuán, a secondary character from previous installments, who recounts to Gabriel, through memoirs written during the siege, in the first person, his experiences during the siege of Gerona.
