Francisco Guerra Navarro (San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, 1909 - Madrid, 1961) was better known as Pancho Guerra. In his youth he was linked to the Escuela Luján Pérez, where he worked on the theme of the islands' reality, a relationship that was to mark the author's whole work. Guerra' work stood out for the literary quality of knowing how to aptly describe this reality as well as the behaviour of the Canarians in the way they make use of their own unique everyday language style. His works are not extensive, and the only book to be published in his lifetime was Memorias de Pepe Monagas. To his death he created other works such as Siete entremeses de Pepe Monagas, Contribución al léxico popular de Gran Canaria and the five volumes of the Cuentos famosos de Pepe Monagas.
