Noir novel route: 09. State Public Library

Where there's a Tirma ambrosia, just cut out the fancy rubbish, thought Monroy, maybe just to console himself, going over the pedestrian crossing towards the Canary Telecommunications Institute. He walked around it and moved on, along the paved esplanade, with benches, flowerbeds with palm trees leading to the State Public Library, rising over a headland that stood on two floors. There were two main entrances along this side of the building, two access points. One was near to the bustling street of Bravo Murillo, with four flights of stairs, hidden behind a wall. Monroy didn't fancy getting caught up in there, where it would have been easy for the other fellow, who by this time was bound to be getting really impatient, to jump out on him. He preferred the other access, the open air ramp which was also closer the the end he had come in on along the esplanade.
By the time he reached the top of the ramp, he could make out the grey cap, hidden behind the wall that served as a bannister. The man followed on behind, as instructed. At the door of the library, he stalled turning off his mobile phone in order to make sure he arrived at the small upper square in time to see him enter the building. Once inside, Monroy walked straight past the counters, where library staff were handling book borrowing and returns, to a security guard who was reading a copy of Parenting. He carried on to the end, to the corridor on the right of the children's library. Along the corridor (which finished at a large window with views over the avenue, sea and sky), the wall had some lockers on it. He chose a free one, number 23, and opened it. Out of the corner of his eye, he could make out the shape of a huge male, who was looking over a nearby noticeboard, situated at such an angle that he could see what Monroy was doing.
