Noir novel route: 11. Avenida Marítima
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Category: Routes · Subcategory: Noir novel route
Monroy walked back home from the police station. It was getting dark, so he decided to cross over to the Avenida Marítima to get a last few gulps of fresh air on the sea side before getting down to what he could see as being a hot and stuffy night. Indeed, the heat and humidity had returned.
He crossed or let walkers, runners and cyclists overtake him, and by habit kept his eyes mainly looking over to the left, where the sea was lapping gently up against the cement wave breakers. He left the sports harbour and the Red Cross headquarters behind. He stopped for a few moments to watch a heavily weighed down cargo ship move slowly out of the bay. It reminded him of when he was in vessels like that, carefully manoeuvring out, at the start of a night in which the early morning would wake him up with a start, along with another twenty or thirty blokes, as bored and resigned as himself.
