A prestigious French naturalist scientist, historian and ethnologist, Sabino Berthelot (1794-1880) did significant research in the Canaries, in the fields of botanics, history, aboriginal anthropology and ethnogrophy. His works were reflected in a series of solid, richly illustrated publications, which were a contributory factory in the Canaries being singled out by the European scientific community. His works include: Etnografía y Anales de la Conquista de las Islas Canarias, Antigüedades canarias, Recuerdos y epistolario, Primera estancia en Tenerife and, especially, in collaboration with English botanist P. B. Webb, Histoire naturelle des îles Canaries.
