Detached House at 10 Eusebio Navarro Street

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 2013 · Authors: Manuel Feo, Claudia Collmar

This detached house built on a narrow plot on the also narrow Eusebio Navarro street is a clear example of boldness and space optimisation. It was designed by architects Manuel Feo and Claudia Collmar, and completed in 2013.

The building, constructed between party walls, consists of four floors, with an integrated garage. On the exterior, the façade is not configured as a plane located on the plot boundary, but breaks the grid, giving rise to surprising exterior surfaces. The composition of openings establishes a priority relationship to the vertical component, except for the horizontal opening of the bedroom which should be read as a likeness to the traditional balconies of the area.

Inside, the distribution of spaces responds to the progressive narrowness, configuring on the ground floor a garage; on the first floor, kitchen and dining-living room; on the second, three bedrooms; on the third floor, more bedrooms; and on the roof, a pool with a rest area. In the basement there is a small utility room.

In short, this is a work with clear reminiscences of the best of Coderch in his interventions in Barceloneta.
