Abicore Path

The Abicore or Abicor path is a trail almost 10 kilometres long that follows the course of the Barranco del Cercado up to the summit and then descends through Las Vueltas to Taganana. It is a route already used by the aborigines in pre-Hispanic times to connect the two slopes of the Anaga massif.
Its original layout remains almost intact. Starting from San Andrés, the first section is an asphalt track that gives way to a path climbing the Cresal ravine, along whose course a stream carries water for almost the entire year. The highest part of the path is known as Gollada de Abicore, and it is here that the trail begins to descend through a splendid green forest until reaching the Taganana valley and its hamlet.
Throughout its route, abundant and diverse native vegetation can be appreciated: from impressive cardonales (cardón cactus fields), to elegant groups of Canary Island palms and, in the upper part, the full richness of the laurel forest.
The importance of the Abicore Path from an ecological, ethnographic, landscape and heritage point of view is unquestionable. The trail is one of the most outstanding elements of the entire Anaga massif.
