The Asociación de Amigos del Espacio El Tanque (Friends of the El Tanque Space Association), with the help of the Government of the Canary Islands, created a green area around the former industrial site, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of its transformation into a cultural centre, the first green space established in Cabo-Llanos.

The design of this garden, inaugurated in October 2022, was carried out by architect Fernando Martín Menis. It features plantings mainly of banana plants and tomato plants, species chosen as a tribute to the agricultural tradition of this area before it was occupied by the Refinery in the early 1930s.

The new vegetation of banana plants, tomato plants and cypresses envelops the grey of the old port walkway installed there and the enormous structure of the former fuel depot, now a cultural space, in green.
