Casa Calleja
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1883 · Authors: Manuel de Oraá
For the wealthy merchant José Calleja Ruiz, the architect Manuel de Oraá designed this imposing building in 1883 as a residence and warehouse on Clavel Street, with a side façade on San Pedro Alcántara.
The exterior of the building is articulated by three doors on the ground floor and an equal number of openings with parapets on the upper floor. The ornamentation is simple, concentrated on the pilasters at the ends and on the lintels of the openings, with imitation of tiny blind and ogee arches. It is interesting to observe the cleanliness of the carving and the quality of the stone used.
This large house had a beautiful courtyard inside, now covered.
