Casa Baudet
Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1877 · Authors: Manuel de Oraá
This building of great classical sobriety is located at the corner of Castillo Street and San Lucas Street. It was designed by the architect Manuel de Oraá in 1877 for the Sociedad Constructora. Its exterior (the interior has been completely altered) shows a rhythmic alternation of openings towards the two streets it faces. The chamfered corner acts as the vertex of the ensemble, with the architect carefully contrasting the ornamentation of the different façades. On the main façade (facing Castillo Street) and on the corner, there is the use of discreet floral decoration incised in the stonework of the lintels, both of doors and windows. On the side façade (San Lucas Street) there is a sober and sparse front in ornamentation. The discreet wrought ironwork closing the balconies should also be highlighted.
