Harbour Pilot's House

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Category: Architecture · Subcategory: Civil architecture · Year: 1947 · Authors: Tomás Machado y Méndez Fernández de Lugo

In 1947 the architect Tomás Machado drafted the project for this building with the purpose of erecting a facility to function as the Harbour Pilots' Pavilion of the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The resulting building, with clear rationalist references, bears a strong resemblance to a ship's bridge. It was built next to the North Dock, a place from which almost the entirety of the port facilities at that time could be visually controlled.
